After a month lay off for Christmas and bad weather, the Salcombe U8s had one of their best performances of the season so far to keep their unbeaten record in tact.
The first game produced an 11-7 win with nearly all the players getting on the scoreboard! The second game saw fewer scores but was by no means short of a masterclass in U8s tag rugby, with Salcombe winning 6-3.
Salcombe's defence was organised and aggressive as always, led by the ever tenacious Aussie, whose relentless pressure created several turnovers. Only generous refereeing prevented more.
Ivybridge made huge in-roads through their continuity, managing to keep the ball alive. Credit must be given to them for the effort of their players who are renowned as the best team locally.
Unfortunately for them, their defence could not get to grips with the side stepping pace of the Salcombe offence. Freddy-George and Freddie led the way running in some quite outstanding tries with 12 between them. This was all credit to the hard work and running by Josh, Ella-Rose, Kai and Lillie, who all ran hard and made strong accurate passes to space once they had been tagged.
Player of the Match was given to Jack, who scored a fantastic try. Scoring isn’t a regular occurrence for Jack, yet his try today was quite outstanding! Jack had plenty to do when he received the ball on the half way line, after side stepping the defence had to pin his ears back to reach the line! Fantastic effort Jack, well done.
